In 2012 we have continued to improve and extend our range of products that are available here online or distributed to high class delicatessens, butchers and cafes across the country.
We were thrilled to announce that we had received the coveted 3 star gold award in the 2011 Great Taste Awards with our Smoked Gammon. The Great Taste Awards judging standards, devised by the Guild of Fine Food, are the most rigorous in the UK. To achieve the 3-star rating a minimum of 20 - more often 30 judges need to be in complete agreement that the food delivered that indefinable 'wow' factor.
We have now added two more 1 star gold awards in 2012 : smoked glazed ham and home produced haslet. Last year in our 1st year of entry we were also awarded a 1 star gold award for our Pork Pie, Black Treacle Back Bacon and our Country Pasty.
Our pork is mainly sourced from Blythburgh. Blythburgh Free Range pigs are born on the sandy soils of the Suffolk Heritage Coast.
These pigs have large acre paddocks to roam, giving them the freedom to display natural behaviours like foraging in the soil and playing with their peers. This extra space and activity not only ensures a vastly improved standard of living and welfare, but also results in the pigs growing at a slower rate, this is for the simple reason they are burning off more calories than a pig that is sat in a concrete pen all of its life. By growing at a much slower more natural rate, Blythburgh Free Range Pork acquires a flavour and succulence that pork traditionally used to have.
